Auto enrolment fines and penalties

The employer duties that come with auto enrolment are not optional and The Pensions Regulator (TPR) will be responsible for ensuring that you comply with your employer duties.

There will of course be penalties associated with not complying with your employer duties. TPR will give an initial warning, then a wake up call of a fixed penalty of £400, and persistent offenders can receive daily penalties ranging from £50 (1-4 workers) to £10,000 (500+ workers).

Prohibited recruitment penalties range from £1,000 (1-4 workers) to £5,000. Finally, an employer and its controlling directors can receive imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years.
