Article by David Stansfield, Head of Audit and Compliance at Sedulo

British Ice Skating – the National Governing Body that oversees the UK’s performance on the ice in the likes of figure skating, short track and long track – has appointed financial powerhouse Sedulo as their official auditor.

The appointment further enhances Sedulo’s growing portfolio of National Governing Bodies in the UK. It is seen as a fantastic opportunity for the firm – now amongst the top 50 accountancy firms in the United Kingdom – to provide the organisation with a holistic range of services going forward.

Chief Executive Michelle Draper, who was involved in the decision to appoint Sedulo, said:

“The knowledge and experience that Sedulo has in the National Governing Body sector is very impressive. This coupled with their holistic service offering meant that it was a logical decision to appoint Sedulo as our new advisors.

“We’re really looking forward to working with Dan, David and the rest of the Sedulo team over the coming years as we develop our financial infrastructure and invest in the next generation of skaters”.

With over 4,000 members across the country, the organisation operates from state-of-the-art facilities in Sheffield and provides training, development and support to skaters of all ages and abilities. These range from beginners to the Great Britain support squad, with disciplines including figure skating, short track, long track, synchronised and ice dance, where Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson claimed a top 10 position at the recent Olympic Games.

Sedulo Group Head of Audit and Compliance, David Stansfield, said:

“British ice skaters have a long and proud history of success on the world stage and have won a number of Olympic, World and European championship medals in the past.

“We are extremely proud to be appointed as the auditor of British Ice Skating and add them to our growing portfolio of NGB clients. Our experience of working with these NGB’s and other sporting organisations should prove invaluable in creating new opportunities and providing accurate and timely advice to Michelle and her team in the future.”

Sedulo NBG Expert Dan Wilson added:

“Sedulo’s appointment is a testament of the hard work invested in recent years in establishing the Sedulo Sport division and developing a reputation as one of the lead advisory firms to NGB’s in the country.

“Since our appointment in December, we have already provided advice across a number of areas and we are really looking forward to working with the whole team as they look to capitalise on the success of the Beijing Olympics and build a lasting legacy within their local communities.”
