Hannah is a second year student studying BSc Accounting and Finance at the University of Salford, who joined our Accounts department for a two week insight of the profession, and also tried her hand at a little marketing, wealth management and corporate finance!

We caught up with her to find out how her work experience was and to see what she thought of her workmates.

What departments did you have exposure to?

I spent the majority of my time in the accounts department, however I worked closely with the tax department and spent a few days exploring Wealth Management, Corporate Finance and Marketing. It was great to experience different functions of the company and really understand what they do and how they work.

What projects did you get involved in?

I was involved in a few projects involving the year end accounts of different companies. This involved creating bank analyses, working papers, journals and extended trial balances to input into the accounting system. In Marketing, I was involved with a small research project, helped with creating content and publishing web posts as well as gaining an insight into their social media platforms.

What did you take away from your experience?

I gained real hands on experience of Accountancy and other finance related functions of the firm. I was impressed about how much I was able to get involved with their daily activities and projects. I took away a valuable insight of the practicalities of the profession.

And finally, what are your thoughts on the people you’ve worked along side with the past few weeks?
